Rivaling the Super Bowl in Entertainment Value, The Puppy Bowl IX

The NFL playoff games this weekend inch the country closer to Super Bowl XLVII, and with this in mind, we wanted to let you know we have your pre-game day entertainment sorted out already! If you were not one of the 10 million viewers to watch the Puppy Bowl last year, we recommend you tune into Puppy Bowl IX, airing Super Bowl Sunday, February 3, 2013, 3-5pmET on Animal Planet. The puppies featured in the Bowl are from shelters and the show shares information on how viewers can adopt rescued puppies and help their local shelter.

Dogs play in a pint-sized football stadium for the coveted title of MVP and are cheered on by hedgehog cheerleaders. Referee Dan Schachner stands firmly behind game-time fairness: “Their overwhelming cuteness and hound eyes wouldn’t affect my judgment to fairly officiate this game,” he says. New Puppy Cam technology will provide close-up shots of the little fuzzballs and an off-field camera will capture puppy substitutes warming their muscles in a in a special hot tub. The game will also feature the annual Kitty Half-Time Show that may just rival Beyonce, with kittens doing acrobatics and gymnastics, culminating in a confetti shower. Highlight videos from former Bowls can be enjoyed here.

And while we are talking puppies, share your puppy love with us for the chance to win a copy of the must-read book Training for Both Ends of the Leash by award-winning dog trainer Kate Perry. Details can be found within our NewYearNewPuppy blog; #NewYearNewPuppy.

Look at baby Olive catching some rays by the Canal. This makes me want to adopt a puppy again! I’d travel to Berlin for sure to see her adorable face.

Olive is the latest addition to the überlin family, a French Bulldog puppy. She joins her big brother cats Iggy and Otis in Berlin, where her antics have already earned her the nickname, The Terminator!

And look! They’re already writing a letter to their dogs in Berlin. Here’s a letter from Olive’s breeder mom.

“HI OLIVE, YOU ARE WONDERFUL, YOU HAVE A SHINY COAT , BRIGHT EYES AND A NARRWO FACE . THIS FACE WILL NOW GET STRONGER IN THE NEXT 7 MONTH YOU WILL GET A WIDE BREAST AND A BROAD FACE.
