KONG’s Amazing Story of Origin Started with Cars

Our dogs can inspire us in many ways. Kong’s founder, Joe Markham, loved his retired police dog, Fritz, but did not love his destructive chewing habits. Fritz loved to crunch on rocks, sticks and other harmful items.

One day, while working on a VW Bus, Joe began throwing out car parts to Fritz to lure him away from those rocks. Fritz was immediately taken with a rubber suspension part and dropped it in Joe’s lap to play. The erratic bounce and toughness of the rubber inspired Joe and the KONG dog toy company was created.

Does your dog eat through toys like some of us eat through bags of chips?  Have you come home to a chewed up pair of Jimmy Choo’s or a roll of toilet paper shredded and strewn throughout your house?  It’s not just the big dogs that can tear a stuffed monkey to shreds in a matter of minutes…little dogs can pack a big bite of their own.  Our Lily rips a hole into every new toy in search of the squeaker – we’re surprised she hasn’t lost her teeth doing this.  The difference is Lily chews holes in toys, but her big dog friends will come over and swallow her toys whole.

Tema member ERIN here at ALTMD has a HUGE 110lb Rhodesian Ridgeback that goes through a bag of food a week, a dog walker a day, and demolishes his toys. If Erin gets him a teddy bear or anything plush, it’s intestines are strewn about the house in a matter of minutes. The only toy that ever lasts in her house are KONG toys.

Their toys are pet-safe and made with built-to-chew rubber that won’t wear down the teeth of our precious pooches. They also has a soft mouth feel that is satisfying for our dogs and super durable. You can stuff it ( Erin puts peanut butter in hers), play toss with it, or just leave it in the yard,  and your four legged friends will always come back for more.

With many different types of toys to choose from, KONGs are the best of the best in quality and already have a huge following. Here are just a couple of reviews from satisfied customers:

“I have a 165 lb English Mastiff. When I got her I could not find a toy that would outlast her more than an few hours not to mention to make it through a day! The only toy that I have found that she has not been able to destroy is the large black Kong!“

Dogs are in love with these toys and they’ll be the first to show you: it’s not just a toy, it’s a KONG. Go HERE to find a KONG for your canine companion.

Wagging Tail Portraits

It’s that time of the year again. Time to buy and wrap presents, hang stockings,  and of course, trim the tree. And we all know that every year, we pull out some of the same ornaments that have sentimental value and this year you can create one more of those fantastic ornaments. This time it’ll have your precious pooches face all over it!

Wagging Tail Portraits is a company that takes a picture of your four legged companion and turns it into an custom hand painted adorable ornament for your Christmas tree.  Now every year you can look at your favorite pets face as you decorate and get ready for the holidays. The founding artist, Sherry Kendall started out making ornaments and paintings as gifts for friends, but because of popular demand, launched this into a full time career. She has been delighting pet owners with her custom paintings for eight years now. And her ornaments even became one of Oprah’s favorite things!

What’s even better about all this is that Sherry donates a percentage of her proceeds to animal rescue groups and non-profits through her fun-raisers and requests from area volunteers. So not only will capturing the face of your beloved pet be a gift to you and your family, you’ll also be helping out other animals at the same time.  And after all, it is the season for giving. Happy Holidays!

Gentleman Norman Teaches Us “How To Be A Man” With New Book

Okay, so usually a man who doesn’t know how to treat a lady and who has bad manners, is called a dog right? Which is so unfair because dogs are so sweet and so loyal! Well I think it’s very interesting (and about time) that we finally have a dog who’s changing our minds on that and teaching men how to behave.  Gentleman Norman is the perfect man. He loves whatever you’re cooking, always licks your feet, and jumps up and down when you come home.  His first book “How To Be A Man” is available now and is the perfect book to give to a man who needs a little lesson on how to be a gentleman like adorable Norman.

Covering grooming, wardrobe, relationship advice and manners, Gentleman Norman’s “How To Be A Man”  has all the great tips for men on how to have great style, etiquette and more importantly how to show a lady how truly appreciated and loved she is. Norman’s beautifully photographed coffee table book draws upon his own twelve years of life experience – eleven of which are marked by a remarkable friendship with loving owner, Georgia native and Rancho Santa Fe, California resident, Laura Martella.

After the death of her mother from Alzheimer’s disease and going through a very difficult divorce, Laura Martella came up with the idea of a book about traditional values and good old-fashioned manners. A therapeutic process for both Martella and Norman, “Gentleman Norman: How to be a Man” offers readers a tongue-and-cheek guide to good form and great etiquette proving chivalry should never die.

Besides having impeccable manners, Gentleman Norman proves that he also has a huge heart too. He, along with Martella,  are giving back to a cause close to both of their hearts and will be donating a portion of book sales to the Alzheimer’s Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter. So not only can this book help teach a man in your life how to be a gentleman, it also supports a great cause.  To get your copy of this beautiful and fascinating book, click HERE to grab a copy. We just love this little guy!
