Dear Ash,

When the lady from the dog rescue brought you to my house for our first meeting, I was worried. You were a very skinny and wild puppy and you ran up and down the stairs over and over again. I was single, in my 20′s, and living on my own for the first time. I was concerned I would not be able to take care of you on my own.

Over the past five years, you have grown into a sweet, loving, and regal gentleman. You have been with me through so much. You have been my hiking and running partner, my cuddle buddy, and my loyal shoulder for crying. You’ve been with me through heartbreaks and on my wedding day.

I love that every night as I’m reading, you come and put a paw (or sometimes your whole 60 lb. self) on my lap. You too know I’m your girl and you’re my boy.

I never would have thought that the crazy puppy that walked into my life five years ago would be my best friend today, but you are.

Love,

Mom
