10 Top Dogs for Allergy Sufferers

While the nation’s flu epidemic continues to make headlines, another health issue is popping up for millions of Americans– indoor allergies.  Accuweather.com warns, “Very high to extreme levels of indoor allergens are occurring across the entire U.S., because houses are closed up during the winter. This allows allergens to build up inside. The three main offending indoor allergens are dust mites, pet dander and mold.”

It’s estimated that 15% of Americans suffer from a pet allergy.  If  you long for the companionship of a dog, but are worried about the sneezing and itching, consider a dog breed that sheds less of that troublesome dander!

Here are 10 of the most hypoallergenic breeds, courtesy of Dogster:

  • Portuguese Water Dog
  • Bedlington Terrier
  • Bichon Frise
  • Chinese Crested Hairless
  • Puli
  • Komondor
  • Wirehaired Fox Terrier
  • Jack Russell Terrier
  • Wirehaired Dachshund
  • Brussels Griffon
