We Heart L.A. Love & Leashes

One of the most feel-good events of the year was made even better with Betty White!

On Monday evening, A Letter to My Dog Co-Author Lisa Erspamer and her dog Lily, along with one of our favorite comedians of all time – Ms. Betty White – attended the one-year celebration of L.A. Love & Leashes in the Westside Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Filling a great need and making rescuing a pet that much easier, L.A. Love & Leashes sells pets that are soley from the city’s animal shelters and marks L.A.’s first animal “shelter shop.”

The brilliant shop was created by the non-profit, volunteer-run Friends of L.A. Animal Shelters and is committed to rescuing and selling animals from the city’s six animal shelters. Jane Mass, co-president of the non-profit organization, said that in 2011, of the 56,000 animals entering city shelters, 17,000 of those who were healthy and adoptable were euthanized. This breaks our dog-loving hearts, but the bright and shining news is that in the one year since L.A. Love & Leashes opened its doors, nearly 400 animals have found a home.

Spread the word and love to all your friends in L.A. who are thinking of adopting! And since L.A. Love & Leashes is largely funded by donations, we whole heartedly recommend giving to them this season.
