New York On a Leash

This morning, Author Lisa Erspamer’s dog Lily hung out on the set of Good Morning America and now she’s taking to the streets of Manhattan with us! There really is nothing quite like New York at this time of year so if you and your dog are thinking about making your way to the city during the holidays, here are some tips on how to make New York “by leash” work for you:

Out and About: Central Park is the ultimate playground for dogs. The park’s Great Lawn can tire out even the most playful and extroverted pups. For Downtown playtime, we like Battery Park City. It has gorgeous water views and easy access to TriBeCa’s many dog-friendly and dog-centric stores.

Street Style: New York fashion undoubtedly extends to dogs – a classic standby for Upper East Side style is Pets on Lex. Across town, The New York Dog Shop has an extensive collection of toys and threads; we appreciate its special “big dog” section in particular. For big-time pampering, there’s the members-only The Fetch Club which prides itself in such luxe dog amenities as a movie theatre, spa, hotel and restaurant.

Meals and Treats: The Freshpet Food Truck (@FreshpetTruck) brings the food truck trend to canines. Big dogs can “paw up to the bar” and small dogs can use the truck’s doggie door. For hungry owners, there’s The Grey Dog which warms the dog lovers heart with its laid-back vibe and hand-painted dog portraits on the walls. We recommend one of the enormous sandwiches with a cup of The Grey Dog’s rich, namesake coffee.

Snuggling and Sleeping: They may not have fenced in yards, but there are plenty of hotels that are dog friendly. The Muse (a Kimpton Hotel) is a standout for having Ginger, a Pomeranian, as the Director of Pet Relations and we also appreciate The Benjamin for its doggie bathrobes and room service. At 70 Park Avenue spa services like the mani and pedi also extend to dogs.

We’ll post more pics from Lily’s New York adventures on Facebook soon. For now check out our album On Set and Behind The Scenes at Good Morning America.
