Dog’s are truly man’s best friend, John Unger and his dog Schoep are living proof of that. John rescued Schoep from a shelter when he was just 8 weeks old and now at the tender age of 19.

Schoep suffers from arthritis in his hind leg and hip dysplasia. Due to Schoep’s uncomfortable situation he’s unable to fall asleep with ease. John hated seeing his dog suffer, as any dog lover would, so he figured out a routine to get Schoep off his feet. He takes Schoep out to Lake Superior and they take a dip as often as possible and Schoep just floats in John’s arms with no pressure on his body and he’s able to go to sleep.

Schoep
This beautiful moment was captured by Hannah Hudson and has taken Facebook by storm with over 300,000 likes. Since then he’s hit the Today Show, ABC, Huffington Post, and moving the internet to tears.

The photographer, Hannah describes the photo taken in late July:

This 19 year old [Schoep] being cradled in his father’s arms [July 31] in Lake Superior. [Schoep] falls asleep every night when he is carried into the lake. The buoyancy of the water soothes his arthritic bones. Lake Superior is very warm right now, so the temp of the water is perfect.
