Dear Maya,

I know you wont be able to read this but there are a few things I want you to know:

1. You saved my life
2. You showed that there is more to life than school
3. You gave me an inspiration
4. You introduced me to dog sports (agility)

Maya you may never fully understand how thankful I am that you came into my life. I adopted you when I thought I wanted your mom. The rescue told me your mom was already adopted. I told them I wanted an adult dog not a puppy but they thought I said I wanted a puppy so they send me your picture. I will never forget that day. I saw your picture and you were so small, innocent, and spunky. I loved you instantly. I set up a time to pick you up and wow you fit right in. You were destined to be mine.

At the time when you came into my life I was sliding into depression. I had just moved into my first apartment, had a cat that cost me $20 to adopt and $200 to get better. I gave the cat away because I knew he was not for me. I tried to get a purebred but they won’t adopt to me. I tried and I tried and I found out that a purebred wasn’t for me. You came into my life and opened up so many doors and closed some too.

You may have been 10 weeks old and cute as a button but you tested my patience. You took 6 weeks to potty train but it wasn’t your fault becasue I had to work a lot right after I adopted you. I didn’t do everything right as I did not allow people to come to our house so we are working through that now but I did do most things right like take you to work with me, introduce you to all types of peopel, and of course spoil you rotten. You know what when you came into my life you saved me and you didn’t know you did nor did I realize you would do such an amazing thing.

I was a full time college student and you put up with my long hours of studying and school. You never let me down. You always laid right next to me as I studied and when I was so frustrated and needed a break you greatfully brought me a toy to play with. I never realized but you also got me out in about in the community. You took me to the doggie park up the street where you had a chance to stretch you legs, to Petsmart to of course spoil you some more. You also helped me loose 60 lbs. I never thought I would be so happy.

When I had to move back in with my parents you didn’t take it so well but I know now that was because you were afraid that I was not going to be happy. You helped me find the dog club where I took you for obedience and now agility training which I was told you would be great at and you are. You mind me so well I do not even think to ask you do to things anymore because I know you will.

Agility was a new start for us as I thought you and I would just do it for fun. I never ever thought we would compete as I thought competition agility was just for those purebred punks. You have again caused me to get involved in something I never saw myself doing or enjoying. I love to see you be successful. Now we are on level three but soon we will be on level five and get our C-ATCH (CPE agility championship) and I can’t wait.

You have inspired me to not only become a better person but to sew doggie collars and make other such doggie things. I know I have made you model several things for me and you don’t like it but you look so darn cute.

You are my true love and I am not sure where I would have been without you. Each and everyday you show/teach me something new. You have also shown me how to enjoy life.

Thanks and much love,
Amy-aka mom
