Dear Our Little Pudgeball,

Dear Cooper/Coop/Coopy/Coops,

Where do we start? Your name was Hollywood before we adopted you and, although we changed it, you have never ceased to live up to your original moniker. You were the star of our condo building in the city, and when we moved to a new home it was no surprise that our neighbors knew your name before they knew ours. It’s because your love is magnetic. Who can help themselves when they approach you and are greeted with that wagging curly-q of a tail and wiggling rear end? Only to be wooed further when you ever-so-gracefully plop yourself on the ground, belly up, tongue flailing out the side of your crooked under bite, those big brown bug eyes pleading for just one rub?

We all know you’re not really a dog, but rather a human (okay, a middle-aged, balding man with a potbelly and an affinity for women’s shoes) trapped inside a canine’s body. It’s apparent through your wrinkled expressions and sideways looks that you’re trying to tell us you should really be standing on two legs instead of four, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Despite the fact you snore so loud it wakes the baby, you shed so much we could’ve made ten thousand winter coats out of puggle fur by now, and you hate the rain with such a passion that you refuse to step a paw in it, which inevitably means we find a surprise from you later on, hidden discreetly somewhere inside the house.

But your flaws are few and far between compared to your qualities. The way you shower everyone (and anyone) with kisses when they walk through the door. The way you run to the baby’s side when she lets out the littlest whimper. The way you think you’re a lap dog, although at 35+ pounds you’re one heavy package. Still you try – ne leg at a time – to claim that coveted lap of whomever may be sitting on the couch at the time (everyone knows better than to wear black when they come over). And it’s all because the amount of love you have to give is endless. It’s unconditional. It’s palpable. It’s larger than life, and it’s why we love you more than you will ever know.

I could go on forever about your infinite charming characteristics but you keep placing your paw on the return key, which is making it impossible for me to type. We are so lucky to have found you little man; you will always have a special place in our hearts.
